Amma Ananda

At 25, she lost her first daughter to an ectopic pregnancy, and at 27, her second daughter, Meera, to SIDS after just three days. In her grief, she became a brutal champion channeling grief into violence, ended the career of her 19-year-old opponent, and hit rock bottom. She spent two years exploring and studying global wisdom traditions, transforming herself into "Mother Bliss" and teaching recovery through A.A. principles such as community, surrender, and taking life one day at a time. There is a kind of generosity that waits until there's enough to spare. And there is Amma's kind, the kind that gives regardless, from a philosophical conviction that abundance is not a state you arrive at but a practice you commit to. Her wound is the one all generous people carry: the question of whether the giving is love or whether it's avoidance — whether abundance is a philosophy or a way of never having to ask what she actually needs. She has asked the question. She's still working through the answer.
A champion who possessed everything, titles, fame, wealth, but lost what truly mattered: her children. "Success without wisdom is expensive suffering."
